Kuifanggu Ribbed Teapot
220 cc — Hongqing Cinnabar Clay · Handmade by Gao Qifeng · Six‑lobed sunflower symmetry · Masterful mingzhen polish
The Kuifanggu is a classic ribbed (jinwen) form, built upon the round “Fanggu” antique silhouette. Its challenge lies in transforming the spherical body through ribbed facets while maintaining perfect symmetry. Master Gao Qifeng has achieved exceptional precision: the body, lid, and knob all exhibit six‑lobed sunflower symmetry. The six ribs on the lid align flawlessly with the body, and the concave‑convex “mother‑child” rim lines match exactly – any minute deviation would break the visual rhythm. The seamless joints demonstrate his ultimate control over facet division and line flow.

Gentle chamfers · Square‑to‑round transitions
- ▸ Perfect six‑lobed symmetry The six ribs extend continuously from the base, through the body, onto the lid and knob. Each lobe is evenly divided, and the lid ribs meet the body ribs with no misalignment – a hallmark of high‑level ribbed ware.
- ▸ Flawless rim fit The mother‑child (zǐ mǔ) rim line features a subtle concave‑convex curve. The lid sits tightly without any gap, preserving the rhythmic flow of the sunflower pattern.
- ▸ Gentle chamfers on all edges The spout, with its square‑outside‑round‑inside shape, and the handle, transitioning from square to round, have been repeatedly chamfered. The ribs themselves are polished to avoid sharpness – retaining the crispness of sunflower petals while feeling soft to the touch.
- ▸ Masterful mingzhen polishing The raised ribs are smooth and lustrous, highlighting the clay’s warm texture, while the recessed areas are clean and shadowed without any roughness. Gao’s exceptional mingzhen (bright‑needle) technique ensures every line remains crisp.
- ▸ Hongqing clay character This Hongqing (Red Clear) Cinnabar Clay fires to a warm, earthy reddish‑brown. It has a fine, smooth texture and develops a rich patina with use – perfectly complementing the orderly beauty of the ribs.
✧ Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. Clean the ribbed surfaces gently with a soft brush. With regular use, the Hongqing clay will develop a deeper, more lustrous patina, enhancing the sunflower motif.
