YIXING CINNABAR CLAY · RIBBED MASTERWORK New Arrival
Liuban Gongdeng Teapot
370 cc — Dicaoqing Cinnabar Clay · Pure‑Yin ribbed lines · Fully handmade by Wang Jinxin (student of Shen Jianhong)
In the world of Yixing artistry, ribbed (jinwen) vessels represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship. The Six‑Petal Palace Lantern by young master Wang Jinxin (a student of the renowned Shen Jianhong) demonstrates a rare mastery of pure‑yin (chan yin xian) ribbed lines – a technique far more demanding than mixed yin‑yang ribs. Every lobe, every curve is executed with precision, resulting in a dignified, flowing silhouette that honors the classic high palace lantern form.

Deeply rooted in traditional methods
Deeply rooted in traditional methods
- ▸ Pure‑yin ribbed precision Unlike yin‑yang combinations, pure‑yin lines have no raised ridges to hide inaccuracies. Every lobe, every concave line must be perfectly symmetrical and balanced. Slight deviation is immediately visible. Wang Jinxin achieves flawless execution through repeated refinement and meticulous calibration.
- ▸ Flowing high‑palace‑lantern silhouette The design inherits the classic high palace lantern form, which is notoriously difficult to master due to its continuous, graceful curves. The ribbed lines extend seamlessly from knob to lid to body to base, creating a unified, breath‑like rhythm.
- ▸ Plump, juicy lobes (nang ban) Each of the six lobes is full and fleshy, with crisp edge‑turnings. After pressing the yin lines, Wang adds extra clay to adjust each lobe individually, ensuring uniform volume and curvature.
- ▸ Meticulous details from top to bottom The knob is small yet fleshy, with clean lines. The lid’s skirt edge transitions naturally into the body. The base is the climax: the fleshy transition and the way each yin line terminates are textbook examples of perfect ribbed‑ware finishing.
- ▸ Dicaoqing Cinnabar Clay Sourced from the deep layers of Huanglongshan, Dicaoqing is a rare, high‑grade clay. It fires to a warm purple‑brown with occasional green “chicken‑eye” specks. Its dense yet porous structure enhances dark teas, ripe pu’er, and aged oolongs.
- ▸ Exceptional skill for a young artist Wang Jinxin has only been potting for about ten years, yet this piece displays the rigor and maturity of a seasoned master. It is a testament to his dedication and the strong mentorship of Shen Jianhong.
✧ Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. Clean ribbed lines gently with a soft brush. The Dicaoqing clay develops a rich patina that accentuates the three‑dimensionality of the ribs.
