Molin Teapot
130 cc — Qingduan Cinnabar Clay · Commissioned by Xiang Yuanbian (Ming dynasty) · Elegant trapezoid silhouette
The Molin teapot is a classic Ming‑era literati vessel, commissioned by Xiang Yuanbian (courtesy name Zijing, art name Molin), a renowned collector and calligrapher. Its name comes from the base inscription “Zhu Cha Ting Zhang Xiang Shi Zi Jing Mo Lin”. The form is defined by a stable, upright presence with a subtle trapezoidal body – neither bulky nor cramped. The straight neck meets the shoulder with a clean line, while a round milk‑nipple knob sits atop. A small curved spout extends with quiet energy, paired with a long, comfortable round handle. Crafted from Qingduan Cinnabar Clay, the fine sandy texture fires to a warm, matte finish – understated yet dignified, perfectly echoing the literati spirit of “simple form, abundant charm”.

- ▸ Stable and poised silhouette The body is upright yet softly contoured, forming an elegant trapezoid from top to bottom – neither swollen nor artificially tapered.
- ▸ Clean neck-to-shoulder transition The straight neck connects crisply to the shoulder, creating a dignified structure.
- ▸ Milk‑nipple knob (rǔ dīng niǔ) Round and resilient, adding a subtle tactile focal point.
- ▸ Small curved spout & long round handle The spout extends with contained energy; the long, straight‑round handle is comfortable and well‑balanced with the body.
- ▸ Qingduan clay character This Duan clay variant fires to a pale greenish‑beige with fine sand grains and a soft matte luster – quiet, elegant, and perfectly suited to the Molin’s restrained literati aesthetic.
✧ Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. The Qingduan clay will develop a gentle patina that enhances its antique charm.
