YIXING CINNABAR CLAY · FLORAL MASTERWORK New Arrival

Wenzhu Teapot

230 cc — Qingduan Cinnabar Clay · Low‑fired, warm yellowish‑brown · By Gao Yufeng · Straight bamboo spout · S‑curve knob · Locking lid with continuous bamboo leaf

Floral ware  captures nature’s lively spirit. This Wenzhu  teapot by Gao Yufeng is a prime example. The body is shaped as two bamboo segments, with the spout and handle also in bamboo form. But what makes this piece exceptional is the straight spout – unlike the typical curved bamboo spout, this one shoots upward like a bamboo shoot breaking through soil, capturing the plant’s upright resilience. The handle continues the theme, with a robust bamboo node at the lower connection acting as a “root,” then splitting into a curved branch that embraces the body, with a small bamboo leaf flowing outward.

  • ▸ Straight bamboo spout (zhí zuǐ) A daring departure from convention. The straight spout mimics a bamboo shoot pushing upward – crisp, forceful, and full of vitality. It brings a structural contrast to the otherwise organic form.
  • ▸ Handle with root and branch The lower handle joint is a thick bamboo node, like a root anchoring the plant. The upper part splits into a curved segment that attaches to the body, with a bamboo leaf extending outward – as if the bamboo is growing directly from the teapot.
  • ▸ Lid & knob with bamboo elements The lid surface is decorated with small bamboo branches and leaves that echo the body. The knob is an S‑curve bamboo node – soft and rhythmic, balancing the straight spout’s rigidity. Motion and stillness coexist.
  • ▸ Locking lid (suǒ gài) with continuous bamboo leaf The most demanding detail: the lid fits so precisely that the bamboo leaf appliqué flows seamlessly from the lid onto the shoulder without any break. This “locking lid” ensures the leaf design appears as a continuous scroll, as if nature itself grew over the surface.
  • ▸ Low‑fired Qingduan clay Fired at a lower temperature, the clay reveals a warm, earthy yellowish‑brown with a slightly sandy feel – rustic and antique. It accepts bamboo carvings naturally, enhancing the organic theme.
Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. Clean the bamboo leaf appliqués gently with a soft brush. The low‑fired Qingduan clay will develop a soft, dry patina with use.
