Jinglan Teapot

90 cc — Zhuni Cinnabar Clay · Classic well curb form · Compact solo brewer · Late Qing inscription

The Jinglan  teapot originates from the “Eighteen Forms of Mansheng”, created by Chen Mansheng during the Jiaqing reign of the Qing dynasty. Inspired by the steady, upright posture of a well curb and the virtue of “remembering the source when drinking water”, this form embodies grounded stability. This rendition is crafted from Zhuni Cinnabar Clay at a petite 90 cc capacity, firing to a brilliant translucent red. The body lines are crisp yet natural, replicating the antique well curb silhouette – visually solid as a rock, yet enlivened by Zhuni’s lively character. The short, straight spout tilts upward; the handle is square on the outside and round within, with seamless transitions. A small, refined bridge‑shaped knob tops the flush‑fitting lid. The body bears the classic inscription from late Qing / Republican‑era “Fan Gu Jinglan” style teapots, blending tea philosophy with epigraphic charm.

  • ▸ Compact solo size 90 cc is ideal for a single serving, allowing full appreciation of tea’s layered aromas – especially suited for yancha, oolong, and dancong.
  • ▸ Zhuni performance Zhuni clay locks in heat instantly, trapping the tea’s fragrance. The first infusion awakens the “snow‑fresh, tooth‑cooling” sensation described in the inscription.
  • ▸ Antique silhouette The upright, steady body with a short upturned spout and square‑outside, round‑inside handle faithfully recreates the classic well curb presence.
  • ▸ Precise lid & knob The flush‑fitting lid (qian gai) is seamless; the small bridge knob is both decorative and functional, easy to lift.
  • ▸ Literati inscription The carved text – “Build a foundation, dry the bowl; snow‑fresh fragrance cools the teeth; tune the spring, talk with a clear mind” – belongs to the “Fan Gu Jinglan” genre of late Qing/Yixing scholar pots, merging tea aesthetics with calligraphic art.
Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. Zhuni clay seasons quickly – within weeks you’ll notice a warm, glossy patina. Perfect for yancha, oolong, and dancong.
