Tuanling Ribbed Teapot

190 cc — Zisha (Cinnabar Clay) · Fully handmade by Zhu Hantao (son of Zhu Xiaodong) · Flowing ribbed lines · Three‑curve spout

Zhu Hantao, son of renowned ribbed‑ware master Zhu Xiaodong, grew up immersed in Yixing’s pottery culture. His interpretation of the demanding ribbed (jinwen) form blends heritage with thoughtful refinement. Full‑handmade ribbed vessels command high prices for good reason: each rib must flow continuously from base to lid, with perfect symmetry and zero tolerance for misalignment. Any deviation leads to uneven lobes or gaps that cannot be corrected after firing, resulting in high rejection rates. This Tuanling (Cluster Water Chestnut) teapot demonstrates Zhu’s mastery of this rigorous discipline.

Impeccable lid fit
  • ▸ Flowing, flawless ribs The body’s ribbed lines are crisp and continuous, transitioning naturally from lid to base. Each lobe is precisely shaped, creating a rhythmic, harmonious whole.
  • ▸ Premium Zisha clay After firing, the clay reveals a deep, dark purple with a fine, sandy texture. Under light, a subdued, lustrous glow emerges – perfect for dark teas, ripe pu’er, and aged oolongs.
  • ▸ Three‑curve spout (sān wān liú) The classic three‑curve spout extends gracefully, its gentle curves matching the ribbed body. The handle echoes the spout’s line, creating a balanced, unified composition.
  • ▸ Seamless lid integration The lid fits perfectly, its ribs aligning exactly with those of the body. When closed, the junction is invisible. The arch‑bridge knob is finely crafted, adding a touch of elegance.
  • ▸ Meticulous finishing (mingzhen) The entire surface has been polished with the traditional “mingzhen” (bright needle) technique, leaving no dead angles. Every corner reflects Zhu Hantao’s rigorous attention to detail.
  • ▸ A collectible masterpiece The true value of this pot lies in its uncompromising craftsmanship – a practical tea vessel that also stands as a rare work of art, embodying the essence of fully handmade ribbed ware.
Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. Clean the ribbed lines gently with a soft brush. With use, the Zisha clay will develop a rich, deep patina that accentuates the three‑dimensional ribs.
