Han Duo Teapot
160 cc — Cinnabar Clay · Yucheng Kiln lineage · Arch‑bridge knob form
The Han Duo form traces its origin to Mei Diaoting, founder of the Yucheng Kiln in the early Qing dynasty. He inscribed a classic couplet on a teapot that gave this shape its name: “Using the Han dynasty’s duō bell as today’s teapot; clay substitutes for metal, tea is called ‘tu’ within.” This inscription marks the birth of the Han Duo form. Among the two main variants—the column‑knob and the arch‑bridge knob—this piece follows the celebrated arch‑bridge knob version, modeled after the Yucheng Kiln example once owned by the Shanghai artist Tang Yun. The body bears the Man Tuo Hua Guan seal and an inscription that pays homage to the original.

- ▸ Inscribed legacy The couplet “以汉之铎为今之壶,土既代金茶当呼屠其中” is incised on the body—a direct link to Mei Diaoting’s original concept and the formal naming of this classic shape.
- ▸ Precision craftsmanship The spout is straight with a slightly flared mouth, finished with clean inner and outer chamfers. The handle features distinct square‑angled turns, executed with exceptional precision—elevating this piece far beyond ordinary commercial ware.
- ▸ Elegant proportions The bell‑like body, flush‑fitted lid, arch‑bridge knob, and circular foot create a balanced, dignified silhouette that recalls ancient bronze vessels.
- ▸ Premium Cinnabar Clay clay Sourced from high‑grade Zisha, the clay fires to a warm reddish‑brown with naturally occurring specks of vermilion sand—a sign of authentic, unadulterated material. Its porous yet dense structure enhances heat retention and rounds out tea flavors over time.
- ▸ Exceptional utility At 160 cc, this teapot is versatile for both solo gongfu sessions and sharing. The ergonomic handle and well‑balanced spout ensure a comfortable, precise pour. Every detail—from the flush lid fit to the finely finished foot—speaks to the maker’s dedication.
✧ Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. With regular use, the Zisha clay will develop a rich patina, and the vermilion sand grains will become more pronounced—a true heirloom in the making.
