Cinnabar Clay High-Neck Round Pot
130 cc — Palace Lantern silhouette · A tribute to Chen Yongqing (Ming dynasty)
This pot traces its lineage to Chen Yongqing, a celebrated Yixing artist active during the Tianqi and Chongzhen reigns of the late Ming dynasty. Chen broke tradition by moving inscriptions from the base to the body, often employing semi-cursive (xingcao) and even pioneering cursive-zhangcao calligraphy on teaware—a bold innovation that shaped later generations. The form revives the classic “Palace Lantern” (gongdeng) silhouette: a rounded shoulder, a tall neck, a seamless lid that sits like a hat, a round pearl finial, a three‑curve spout (sanwanliu), and an elegantly arched handle.

Pure fragrance · Aesthetic virtue
Pure fragrance · Aesthetic virtue
- ▸ Historical form The tall neck and rounded body echo Chen Yongqing’s revolutionary spirit—where inscriptions first adorned the pot’s side in expressive calligraphy, inspiring generations of artists.
- ▸ Elegant proportions A rounded shoulder, a tall collar, a dome‑shaped lid with a pearl finial, a three‑curve spout, and a gracefully arched handle create perfect visual and ergonomic balance.
- ▸ Zhuni performance Fired to a warm, lustrous red, this dense clay locks in heat and concentrates fragrance—ideal for high‑aroma teas such as Wuyi rock tea and Fenghuang dancong.
- ▸ “Su Xin” – pure fragrance The two characters carved on the body are modeled after a late‑Qing inscription on a Yucheng kiln flowerpot by He Xinzhou. Su signifies purity and simplicity; Xin denotes fragrance. Together they evoke a clean, refined scent—a metaphor for quiet virtue and the subtle beauty of tea.
✧ Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. The tall, high‑neck form concentrates aromas beautifully, making it an exceptional companion for oolongs, rock teas, and dancong.
