Jingliang Tiliang Teapot

110 cc — Aged Cinnabar Clay · Wang Dongshi (Yucheng Kiln) · Shen Moxian carving

This teapot is a faithful 1:1 reproduction of a masterpiece from the Yucheng Kiln in the late Qing dynasty. It was originally made by Wang Dongshi (studio name: Shichuang Shanfang), one of the leading potters of the Yucheng Kiln, renowned for his mastery of antique techniques and exquisite carving. The inscription and orchid carving were executed by Shen Moxian, a celebrated calligrapher and painter from Songjiang, Shanghai. This piece revives the original form, line by line, with unwavering fidelity.

  • ▸ Elegant silhouette The body resembles a tall‑necked well curb; the lid is shaped like a orchid bottle with a single‑ring finial. The overall proportions are graceful and evocative of scholar’s taste.
  • ▸ Handle & spout The square‑outside, round‑inside handle (提梁) rises high above the lid. The spout echoes the same geometric interplay—angular yet flowing, visually dynamic and comfortable to pour.
  • ▸ Refined transitions Every edge, corner, knob, and spout is rendered with crisp, minimalist lines, creating a strong three‑dimensional presence without unnecessary ornament.
  • ▸ Orchid carving & poem One side of the body is left plain to highlight the clay. The other side features an incised elegant orchid, accompanied by a poetic couplet: “The orchid’s fragrance is pure, my heart is one with it; may the jade grant you long life.” The calligraphy, signed by Shen Moxian, is bold and free—a hallmark of literati teaware.
  • ▸ Aged Cinnabar Clay Sourced from aged Cinnabar Clay, the clay fires to a deep, rich brown with abundant sand grains. It offers excellent heat retention and responds beautifully to seasoning, developing a warm patina over time.
Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. Gently clean the carved areas with a soft brush. With regular use, the clay will deepen in color and the carved lines will gain subtle definition.
