Three Friends of Winter Teapot

160 cc — Aged Cinnabar Clay · Chen Ziqi lineage · Pine, bamboo, plum in harmony

This teapot revives the classic “Three Friends of Winter” (Sui Han San You) form, originally attributed to Chen Ziqi, a master potter active during the Tianqi and Chongzhen reigns of the late Ming dynasty (and said to be the father of Chen Mingyuan). The original design embodies the scholarly spirit—pine, bamboo, and plum flourish even in the coldest months, symbolizing resilience and refinement. This recreation faithfully honors Chen’s meticulous appliqué technique, where every pine cluster, bamboo node, and plum branch is rendered with extraordinary precision.

Applied pine, bamboo & plum reliefs
  • ▸ Cylindrical body Tall and straight like a palace lantern, providing a clean canvas for the three friends to shine.
  • ▸ Pine knob & lid A cluster of pine needles and a pine‑section knob crown the lid—applied with layered texture that feels alive.
  • ▸ Bamboo spout The straight spout is formed from two bamboo segments, with crisp nodes and a natural taper for smooth pouring.
  • ▸ Plum handle A curved plum branch serves as the handle, complete with bark texture and small knots—comfortable and artistic.
  • ▸ Exceptional detailing Every applied element—from the pine scales to the bamboo joints to the plum blossoms—is executed with the precision of a master. The overall composition feels balanced, uncluttered, and full of quiet energy.
  • ▸ Premium Cinnabar Clay Sourced from Huanglongshan (Yellow Dragon Mountain), this cinnabar clay clay fires to a warm brownish‑brown tone. Its natural sand grains become more pronounced with use, and the patina deepens over time—rewarding the dedicated tea lover.
Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. The applied reliefs should be cleaned gently. With regular use, the clay will develop a rich, jade‑like finish, and every detail will feel more tactile and alive.
