Duoqiu Teapot

430 cc — Hongqing Cinnabar Clay (early Huanglongshan ore) · Handmade by Du Yanjun · Aged 20 years · Plump, fleshy form with seamless transitions

This Duoqiu  teapot is a heavyweight work by master Du Yanjun, using early Hongqing Cinnabar Clay from Huanglongshan that he personally stockpiled over 20 years ago. The moment you hold it, the exceptional aged clay captivates: a reddish hue with a translucent glow, not overly sandy but rich and mellow. Master Du’s masterful “mingzhen” (bright‑needle) polishing brings out a natural luster. What truly distinguishes this teapot is its fleshy  quality and the way every part transitions seamlessly. Unlike the usual slender “mother‑child” rim lines, this pot features an unusually thick, substantial rim. The lid arches up, crowned by a full, round knob – every element exudes solidity. The body is a perfect round sphere, transitioning from the short neck to the shoulder, belly, and base with no trace of stiffness. Even the spout and handle continue this fleshy theme – their thickness and curves echo the body, appearing tightly integrated yet perfectly harmonious. The base is a thick, fleshy ring, consistent with the overall robust character. At 430 cc, this large vessel feels magnificent in hand – ideal for sharing tea with multiple guests, and when placed on a tea table, it becomes an elegant focal point that is simply pleasing to behold.

  • ▸ Aged Hongqing clay Stockpiled for over 20 years, this early Huanglongshan Hongqing Cinnabar Clay has a rich, mellow character. It fires to a translucent reddish hue with a subtle, warm glow – not overly sandy, yet full of depth.
  • ▸ Fleshy, solid rim lines Unlike the thin, delicate “mother‑child” lines on typical multi‑sphere teapots, this one has substantially thick rims – robust and satisfying to touch.
  • ▸ Perfectly rounded body The body is a standard full round sphere. The transitions from the short neck to the shoulder, belly, and base are so natural that no hard edge remains – every curve flows seamlessly.
  • ▸ Harmonious spout and handle The spout and handle also carry the fleshy quality – their thickness and curvature perfectly echo the body’s volume, creating a tightly integrated yet balanced composition.
  • ▸ Thick circular base The base is a fleshy ring, matching the overall robust character and providing a stable, grounded presence.
  • ▸ Masterful mingzhen polishing Du Yanjun’s exceptional “mingzhen” (bright‑needle) technique repeatedly polishes the surface, resulting in a natural, subtle luster that enhances the clay’s beauty.
Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. The aged Hongqing clay will develop a deep, rich patina over time, making the fleshy contours even more pronounced. Perfect for ripe pu’er, dark teas, and aged oolongs.
