YIXING CINNABAR CLAY · WU DONGJING MASTERWORK New Arrival
Bianzhu Teapot
150 cc — Xiaohongni Cinnabar Clay · Single‑slab full‑handmade · Perfect for raw pu’er
Wu Dongjing is the elder sister of renowned potter Wu Dongyuan. Both studied under the Gu lineage (Gu Jingzhou’s school), learning from master Wu Qunxiang. Dongjing gained fame early as one of the leading female Yixing artists of the forum era, celebrated for her antique yet delicate style. This Bianzhu (Flat Pearl) teapot exemplifies her signature approach: a plump, upright body with crisp shoulder lines that transition naturally into a rounded belly, then smoothly converge toward the base—all in one continuous, energetic arc. The sense of internal fullness radiates from within.

- ▸ Single‑slab full‑handmade (单口单底) This pot is formed from a single clay slab—no separate bottom piece. The body is built by continuously paddling one strip of clay from shoulder to base. This technique creates exceptional tension in the lines, especially from shoulder to mouth, and leaves no visible seam. However, it is extremely difficult: the mouth and base can easily become out‑of‑round or distorted. Dongjing’s mastery here is evident in the perfect symmetry and crisp profile.
- ▸ Plump, upright body The belly is full and expansive, the shoulder line clean and decisive. The transition from belly to base is smooth and uninterrupted, giving the pot a sense of internal pressure—as if it is swelling from within.
- ▸ Elliptical steel‑wrapped spout The spout is shaped like an elliptical steel pipe, with a fleshy, robust appearance yet a clean, powerful line. It is both visually substantial and functionally precise.
- ▸ Flowing handle & hidden seal The handle follows the body’s curve with natural grace. To preserve the overall aesthetic, the artist’s seal is placed discreetly under the handle (把下章), a refined touch that keeps the exterior uncluttered.
- ▸ Perfect for raw pu’er The 150 cc capacity is ideal for savoring raw (sheng) pu’er. The Xiaohongni clay’s fine texture and heat retention enhance the tea’s layered aromas, while the precise pour allows for full control during gongfu brewing.
- ▸ Xiaohongni clay character This Xiaohongni (small red clay) is a type of Cinnabar Clay. It fires to a warm, deep red with a fine, dense texture. It offers excellent heat retention and develops a rich patina with use. Ideal for raw pu’er, oolong, and black teas.
✧ Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. The single‑slab construction makes the pot more responsive to heat. Handle with care. Ideal for raw pu’er – it will smooth out astringency and highlight sweetness over time.
