YIXING CINNABAR CLAY · INNOVATIVE FORM New Arrival

Liufang Jingle  Teapot

150 cc — Zhaozhuang Zhuni Cinnabar Clay · Handmade by Gao Qifeng · Original design by Wu Jieming · Square hidden in roundness

The Liufang Jingle  teapot is an innovative design by the highly regarded mid‑generation artist Wu Jieming. Since its auction debut in 2023, this form has captivated collectors with its unique aesthetic and exquisite craftsmanship, remaining highly sought after in the Yixing teapot scene. The brilliance of this form lies in how square principles are concealed within a round silhouette. From a distance, the full, rounded body appears soft and flowing – entirely like a warm, round vessel. Only upon closer inspection do you notice that the knob and the mouth rim are actually soft hexagonal – the crispness of square geometry hides in the details. As you move from the hexagonal mouth down to the body, the transition is masterfully handled: Master Gao Qifeng intentionally tucks the corner edges into the neck area. This not only makes the connection from mouth to body appear smooth and natural, but also results in a body with almost no perceptible facets – even the seam marks on the body are so shallow they are barely visible. The lid is slightly domed, perfectly complementing the soft hexagonal shape and harmonizing with the rounded lines of the body. Finally, the spout and handle emerge naturally from the shoulder line, balancing straight and curved forms. The overall rhythm flows seamlessly from top to bottom, combining traditional Yixing finesse with contemporary ingenuity – the more you appreciate it, the more its character unfolds.

Natural spout & handle transition
  • ▸ Square hidden in round The overall shape appears round and full, but the knob and mouth are soft hexagonal. This subtle contrast embodies the philosophy of “square principles concealed within roundness”.
  • ▸ Seamless transition from hexagon to round body Gao Qifeng hides the angular transitions inside the neck area, making the hexagon‑to‑cylinder connection smooth and invisible – no sharp edges on the body.
  • ▸ Extremely shallow facet marks The corners on the body are barely perceptible – the surface feels almost continuous, preserving the round silhouette while hinting at hexagonal structure.
  • ▸ Slightly domed lid The lid has a gentle arch that works perfectly with the soft hexagonal shape, echoing the body’s rounded lines.
  • ▸ Natural spout and handle The spout and handle emerge directly from the shoulder line, with a balanced interplay of straight and curved lines – crisp yet flowing.
  • ▸ Zhaozhuang Zhuni clay Sourced from the historic Zhaozhuang mining area, this Zhuni Cinnabar Clay fires to a brilliant, warm vermilion red with a fine, glossy texture. It locks in heat and fragrance instantly – perfect for yancha, oolong, and dancong.
Seasoning & care — Rinse with pure water after each session; avoid detergents. The Zhaozhuang Zhuni clay will develop a deep, lustrous patina. The subtle hexagonal details will become more apparent with handling.
